My best friend has a brother named Brian. He provided the following memory of his mom for my inspiration for this painting.

When our family first moved into the Aupuni Street residence mom was deciding where her garden would be and she gave me a piece of land and said this was my garden. It was my first garden and mom let me do whatever I wanted, gave very little advice but answered every question, and the garden turned out fairly well.

A couple of years later, when the family moved to Kailua Road there was a shade tree in the yard and I suggested a Hawaiian tropical garden to go under the shade tree. Mom wasn't sure that would work but said for me to go for it....I did and it turned out to be quite the nicest part of the garden.

So now Mabel has two paintings in her honor.
